“Hold on, baby. Trust time. Hold on knowing it will carry you safely past to afterwards.”

Long time collaborator Ève Laroche-Joubert's design for the piece hints at the relational nature of reality itself allowing Afterwards characters to fully manifest in shifting space that suggests the fluidity of time - offering limitless human interactions that metaphorically suggest the complexity of relationship and a unique displacement of past and present.

Inspired by Edward Snowden’s BitCoin2024 address, itself a yowling howl of a reaction to an increasingly technological world we’ve little power to decide how much we might want to be subsumed by Afterwards ends with a plea for kindness.

BAD REP is grateful for Theater for the New City and Executive Director Crystal Field for producing a staged reading for Afterwards on February 11, 2025 during which Ms. Schwab used Ève’s early sketches to inspire the actors as they dove into the play’s dramatic possibilities. A following reading is scheduled in the Upper West Side, hosted by Annette Fox, on July 2, 2025.

NEWS:

Austin Pendleton who is one of Afterwards's stars has been tapped to play Kevin Kline’s father in the upcoming television series American Classic shooting now.

Thrillingly this gave director Sarah T. Schwab time to wield her awesome dramaturgical skills gracing us with the updated version of Pamela Enz's script we are all excited to dig into.

Its premiere read-through will be hosted by Annette Fox on July 2nd 2025.
